…lol
You’ll lose fat if you are patient and keep your fat loss to about 1 lb. per week. If you force the weightloss and have overly large cal deficits from day to day, you will lose some muscle along the way. Keep your cal deficit to 500 calories daily….or LESS.
so if i go into a calorie deficet will i lose muscle as well of is it just fat or both
i got your msg and your dead right , in what you told me , i’ll do what you said…
You need to learn how to lose fat weight slowly. About 1 lb per week. Any more then that and you’ll run the risk of losing lean muscle as well….especially in the smaller upper body muscles. That is why your bench went down. If you reduce slowly your body will just burn fat and leave the muscle. You’re probably doing enough cardio. Reduce your daily calories just slightly and weigh yourself. If you’re trending downward at about 1 lb. per week,…you’re doing great. Write back for more help.
……To get BIG arms!! After that life becomes meaningless..lol.
Steve, what is the purpose of life?
Hah answer that oh noble one!
my problem is drop the weight/ fat, w/out..losing strength…i was droped 30 lbs. by cardio. got down to 180 , then my bench went down to less than my own weight….i was pissed …now my strength is way up…but im at 195 and this is about a year and half latter…so that my battle…..i guess i need more cardio w/ my wieght trainin….help
way to back it up w/ your abs….

lol wow thanks man imma try that. I appreciate it
You keep your calorie deficit at 400-500 calories a day. You lose about 1/7-1/8 pound of fat per day.3500 calories=1 lb of fat. If you keep your deficit around 500 or even 400 to be safe, you will lose 1 lb per week. 500 calories X 7 days=3500 calories or 1 lb of fat lost. Your body will really not notice a 500 calories or less deficit and will burn fat. Anything much more then 500, especially for several days on end, can and will set off alarm bells of starvation…and you’ll burn some muscle.
great video
steve, if you need to create a calorie deficit don’t you lose muscle too?
how do i lose fat without losing muscle?
Hey Steve if I ate a few cookies or any other junk food at night and if I ran on an elliptical for about 20-30 minutes on the highest setting, would that be a good idea?
..and that’s the fear of getting hurt. When I was younger it was different, I didn’t care. I run my own business now. I need my body strong..not hurt. I’m also at times a little light on insurance. If I break a wrist, tear a shouldler, re-hurt my ear drum, or open up and old cut from my boxing days..what am I going to do? I worry even about doing Olympic lifts as they can be dangerous too. I look at vids with Steve’s arm injury. I CAN’T afford for something like that to happen to me now..NO WAY!
very bad shoes and even combat boots. Just from that I should have knee, ankle, foot and hip problems. But I do not. I’m convinced that is because I learned how to Squat at a young age. I’m convinced this strengthened my muscles, bones and joints and prevented injuries from running and contact sports. I’ve been wanting to take up MMA in that last two years. That’s part of the reason I’ve dropped a lean 192 lbs to a much leaner 180 lbs over the last year. Something however is holding me back…
Hey Spartan, yes weight-training builds, maintains both muscle and bone mass. Natural strength athletes tend to look very young and athletic. I’ve played A LOT of contact sports in my life: Football, Wrestling, Boxing, Powerlifting. Well the last one is not a contact sport, but it’s tough on the body lets say.Yet, I’ve never spent a day in the hospital in my life. I truly don’t know what that experience is like. I have NO joint problems. I used to do LONG road work running drills wearing….
hey brushfour ive been lifting since 19, im now 24 and i noticed that i can look forward to looking better every year through weight training. I never lifted weights in highschool at all or was never a jock. Only after highschool i began lifting. But i always noticed lifting weights makes you young. and your still going at it ar 46 thats an inspiration. but question how are your joints holding up? are u taking any glucosamine? how about glutamine?
steve is right on the money again. Any time you see somone with great abs they have lower body fat. But everybody is a little different. i can see some abs at 15 percent body fat, but i carry most of my fat initialy on my legs and lower body. My arms always stay very lean and shoulders etc. Now im at around 10 percent body fat and my abs are very visable. the lower the body fat goes, the more visible the abs will be, somone at 20-30 percent body fat will have no visible abs period.
hmph!
@rungirl05 I got this one Steve. Umm… No.
Steve! Alot of programs ive seen have said that interval or turbulence training is really the only way to target belly fat! Ive lost many inches in my thighs from regular cardio but my waistline is staying the same…ive been told you cant “spot reduce” and fat will go away in different places when it does but i dont want to be out of proportion and i was wondering if there were any cardio that would shed fat around my WAIST where i really need it, and not so much my legs, which are pretty toned
LOL..I see that I put me at 32 and Steve at 33,..aah just make us both 32. I’ve been waiting for months to bring that up. It’s kind of strange though, you get hit on by 21-24 year old girls all the time. It’s not that they know you’re 46 but just look good, they truly believe by what they see that you’re about 30. It’s kind of strange feeling when you break the news or they finally get a look at your licence. They feel duped. But, I like women who are about my age anyway…as long as they train.
If your training does NOT challenge large amounts of muscle fiber and bone often, you don’t get the that youthful effect to as large a degree. It’s sort of vain to talk about this stuff, I wasn’t going to bring it up. P90X and programs like that are fine, but you will NOT retain or build as much muscle mass or bone mass like you with with just HEAVY challenging squats, bench, powercleans, etc. Steve looks about 33 but he’s almost 46. When he’s 56he’ll look about 37. Strength guys don’t age much.
